Five contenders to be the next Celtic manager

We take a look at the contenders to be the next manager of Celtic following their 2-0 defeat at Falkirk.

First-half goals from Ethan Ross and Scott Tanser earned Falkirk a deserved victory against the defending Scottish Premiership champions.

Celtic remain four points clear at the top of the table, but rivals Rangers now have a game in hand on Martin O'Neill's side.

O'Neill has received plenty of scrutiny from Celtic's supporters, particularly following some poor performances in Europe, and he has been criticised heavily on social media following a dismal display at Falkirk.

Here are our top five contenders to be the next Celtic manager in the event that there is a change in the dugout.

Next Celtic Manager Contenders

Kieran McKenna

Following five seasons in East Anglia, Kieran McKenna left Ipswich Town in May after leading the club back to the Premier League.

He stepped down to take a break from management but he has been linked with numerous positions in the first three months of the new season.

McKenna was previously linked with Celtic following Brendan Rodgers' departure and he may well want to take up an opportunity to manage his boyhood club.

Neil Lennon

Former Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon is currently the manager of Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic.

He knows his way around Celtic Park having made over 200 league appearances for Celtic and winning five titles as a player.

The 55-year-old has also guided Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title as manager on five occasions and a third spell in charge would not be a surprising appointment.

Robbie Keane

Robbie Keane has led Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ferencvaros to domestic titles in Israel and Hungary respectively in recent times.

He is currently looking for a new role after leaving Ferencvaros at the end of last season.

Keane has been linked with the Scottish Premiership champions previously and the time could be right for both the club and the former Bhoys striker.

Shaun Maloney

Martin O'Neill's assistant Shaun Maloney has been tipped as a future Celtic manager for quite some time.

He will have learned a lot alongside the experienced O'Neill and he may feel that he is ready to make the step up.

Maloney has managed Hibernian and Wigan Athletic in his early career and he will feel as though he is now a better coach.

Carlos Corberan

Carlos Corberan was relieved of his duties at La Liga side Valencia in September.

The Spanish coach has previously excelled in English football having managed Huddersfield Town and West Bromwich Albion.

His reputation remains intact and a chance to join the Scottish champions could well appeal.
