After disappointing back-to-back relegations from the Premier League to League One, Leicester City have been on the hunt for a new manager.
There had been much speculation over who would take over at Leicester ahead of next season, following a dismal relegation from the Championship under Gary Rowett last term, but now it appears they have their man.
The Telegraph's John Percy has reported that the foxes are in 'advanced talks' to sign the former Rangers and Southampton boss, who lasted just 17 Scottish Premiership matches last season.
While the report suggests that a move for Martin could be imminent, it does highlight that he is 'weighing up' an offer from the now-League One outfit, for what would be a big step down in his short career so far.
A former Scotland international, Martin has been out of work since departing Rangers back in October, having previously had successful stints at Southampton, Swansea and MK Dons.
Russell Martin has reportedly also been in discussions with a number of other clubs, both in England and abroad, but is seriously considering a move to the Midlands to manage the third tier club.
One of the key reasons for Leicester's interest in the former Norwich player is his attractive brand of football, with an attacking philosophy engrained in all of his previous teams.
Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, the club’s owner, spoke in a recent interview about a potential managerial appointment, stating: “We have to get back to the identity of Leicester, what type of football we should play and what players we should bring."
“I think it was so clear when we got Enzo on board, what football we should play, and the type of player we should bring in.”
Having suffered the humiliation of back-to-back relegations - especially with the wage bill at the club - Leicester are set for a heavy upheaval his summer, with almost wholesale changes expected.
While on paper, rebuilding the financially struggling side may not look an attractive prospect, the pull of the 2015/16 Premier League champions still appears extremely strong.
