A former mainstay of English football has opted to extend his spell in Australia, signing a two-year deal with Newcastle Jets.
After spells at Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest, Joe Lolley became one of the most high-profile arrivals in recent A-League history when he made the switch to Sydney FC following Forest's promotion to the Premier League in 2022.
In his second season at the club Lolley was part of the Sydney side that won the Australia Cup for just the second time.
In the final against Brisbane Roar he registered an assist in the 3-1 win and was awarded the Mark Viduka Medal as the player of the match, becoming the first Englishman to do so.
Across four seasons in Sydney Lolley made a playing 112 games in all competitions and scoring 36 goals.
Repeated injuries hampered his involvement last season, and he underwent ankle surgery in March before returning in time for the A-League Men Finals Series, where he made three appearances from the bench as Sydney were beaten by Auckland FC in the final.
Speaking following his move to Newcastle Jets Lolley said that he is excited to continue plying his trade Down Under.
“I’m really excited to join," he said.
"The Jets have consistently played the best and most exciting football over the past year, and the opportunity to be part of that was something I couldn’t turn down.
"I’m really looking forward to having the opportunity to play my best football here in the A-League and in the Asian Champions League Elite.”
Lolley's move to the McDonald Jones Stadium sees him reunited with his former Nottingham Forest team-mate Zach Clough, after he joined the club from Malaysian side Selangor in January.
