Celtic considering move for international goalkeeper

Celtic are reportedly weighing up a move to sign Russian international Denis Adamov.

Following a dramatic defeat in their UEFA Champions League play-off against LASK on Tuesday night Martin O'Neill's side have turned their attention back to their domestic campaign.

The reigning Scottish Premiership champions have been in the market for a goalkeeper throughout the summer and it appears one of the potential options on their list is Zenit Saint Petersburg shot-stopper Adamov.

According to a report from journalist Ivan Karpov, Celtic have earmarked Adamov as they look to bring in another goalkeeper before the transfer deadline.

Adamov is said to be keen on a move to Celtic Park, with the 28-year-old currently in the final year of his contract at the Krestovsky Stadium.

The goalkeeper made his senior debut for Russia earlier this year and was an academy graduate at FC Krasnodar, the team Paris Saint-Germain signed their No 1 Matvey Safonov from.

Celtic currently have just two senior goalkeepers on their books, with Finland international Viljami Sinisalo having been promoted to first-choice last season following Kasper Schmeichel's injury and subsequent retirement.

Sinisalo has started between the sticks in all five of Celtic's games this season, and recently insisted he is ready to fight for his No 1 spot regardless of who the club signs.

"Competition brings the best out of players, but I’m not really fussed who gets brought in." Sinisalo said last week.

"It’s the same for any player. I’ve got the shirt and I’ve said it many times, I want to keep it.

"I’ve got no intention of letting go of that because I’ve worked so hard to get it."
