British gold medal hope Matthew Hudson-Smith will be bidding for an European Championship hat-trick when he takes to the track in the men's 400m final on Wednesday.
The Olympic silver medallist, who will be competing in front of a raucous home crowd at the Alexander Stadium, reigned supreme in this event in Munich four years ago, having previously secured top spot in Berlin in 2018.
Now, after coming through his semi-final on Tuesday, the Wolverhampton-born speedster has the opportunity to further cement his European 400m authority on home soil.
He will however be wary of a stacked field that includes Frenchman Muhammad Abdallah Kounta after he recorded a personal best 44.38 in qualifying for tonight's final, as well as the supremely talented Dutch athlete Jonas Phijffers -- the European U23 champion.
European indoor champion Hungary's Attila Molnar promises to be a serious threat too after maintaining his string of impressive sub-45-second performances in qualifying, whilst German Jean Paul Bredau will be fancied to go well after lowering his PB to an impressive 44.72 earlier in the year.
