Derby County in talks to sign Leicester City stalwart

Derby County are reportedly in talks to sign Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury before next week's transfer deadline.

Derby have already made five senior signings this summer as John Eustace looks to build on last season's eighth-placed finish in the second tier.

However, it appears their business is not yet finished with reports suggesting that the Rams are intent on signing Leicester mainstay Choudhury on a permanent deal.

According to a report from Mike McGrath of the Telegraph, the Championship side have made a move for Choudhury and are hopeful of completing a deal before the window slams shut.

Championship

The 28-year-old midfielder is Leicester's longest-serving player, having joined the club's academy at age seven before going on to make his senior debut for the Foxes in September 2017.

Choudhury has made 57 Premier League appearances for his boyhood club, and was part of the Brendan Rodgers' side that won their first-ever FA Cup in 2021.

He spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Sheffield United as Leicester dropped down from the top flight but returned to the fray last season as they suffered a second successive relegation.

In all, the defensive midfielder has made 165 appearances in all competitions for Leicester, netting three goals.

A former England youth international, Choudhury switched international allegiances to Bangladesh in 2024 and has since earned 10 caps for the Tigers of Bengal.

He has featured in both of Leicester's League One fixtures so far this season, coming off the bench against Notts County and Burton Albion, as a first league win continues to elude new boss Russell Martin.
