Denzel Dumfries potential next club as Real Madrid informed on release clause

After a reported less than €25m release clause was revealed in the contract of Inter Milan right back Denzel Dumfries, Europe's biggest clubs are beginning to circle.

The 30 year-old has widely been regarded as one of the best right backs in Europe throughout his career and has long been linked with moves away from Serie A side Inter Milan, who he has played for since joining from PSV in 2021.

Now, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed via X that Dumfries has a release clause in his Inter Milan deal, worth less than €25m, with multiple of Europe's biggest clubs considering making a move for his signature.

We take a look at some potential destinations for the Dutchman...

Real Madrid

The club most heavily linked with a move for Dumfries are Real Madrid.

After Dani Carvajal's retirement - and the early struggles of Trent Alexander-Arnold at the Bernabeu - Los Blancos are likely to be in for a right back this summer, with Dumfries' reported release clause presenting a market opportunity.

Some reports have suggested that Real Madrid have already made a move for the Inter Milan man, with Madrid already in talks with his representatives.

Liverpool

Another side who could be in the market for a right back, Liverpool could make a move for Dumfries to replace Alexander-Arnold, who left for Real Madrid last summer.

The Reds did sign another Dutchman - Jeremie Frimpong - to replace the outgoing Scouser last summer, however the former Leverkusen wing back has struggled since moving to the Premier League.

Dumfries would present a proven and more defensively solid option than Frimpong, allowing last season's summer signing the opportunity to grow into the division with less pressure.

Reports have suggested that Liverpool were previously interested in a move, before fellow Dutchman Arne Slot was sacked, with the Reds' decision on a new manager potentially complicating a move for Dumfries.

Tottenham Hotspur

After back-to-back 17th place Premier League finishes, Tottenham Hotspur are in the midst of a rebuild.

Reports have already confirmed that Spurs have secured two free transfers ahead of the new season already, with Liverpool's Andy Robertson and Bournemouth's Marcos Senesi set to move to North London.

With defence being a weak point for Tottenham over the last couple of seasons, a more defensive minded, experienced right back could be preferred to their current option of Pedro Porro.

Porro, a more attack minded full back, could be supported - rather than replaced - by the signing of Dumfries, who would allow Roberto De Zerbi the opportunity to rotate and change strategy based on opposition.

Barcelona

With the club seemingly now able to spend an endless pot of money, Barcelona could use their new-found financial strength to secure a new right back.

Having already spent a reported €80m on Newcastle's Anthony Gordon and reportedly made a €100m bid for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, Barcelona are starting to flex their financial muscles once more.

With Joao Cancelo - on loan from Al Hilal - the club's current starting right back, Denzel Dumfries would present an upgrade on their current squad and, for just €25m, would allow them to continue to splash the cash elsewhere in their squad.
