Daniel Dubois reveals which heavyweight he'd like to fight if he beats Fabio Wardley in October rematch

Daniel Dubois has revealed he is open to a mouthwatering rematch with Filip Hrgovic if he makes a successful defence of his WBO heavyweight title against Fabio Wardley next month.

Queensberry star Dubois will look to retain hold of his prized belt against stablemate Wardley on October 17 after blitzing his way past the Ipswich man to become a two-time blue-riband division ruler earlier this year.

Dubois courageously climbed off the canvas twice as he survived an early onslaught before taking full control of the bout to seal an 11th-round stoppage victory with the official rightly declaring Wardley unfit to continue.

The former white-collar operator said he would take some time in deciding whether to invoke his rematch clause in the immediate aftermath of his defeat, but signalled his intentions to do so a few days after.

The pair are now set to lock-horns for a second time in just over five weeks time, and whilst Dubois won't be underestimating the challenge in front of him, he has already cast his eyes towards a future clash with another former foe, Hrgovic.

The giant Croatian produced a career-best performance to see off British sensation Moses Itauma last month, stopping the previously unbeaten Briton in the ninth round to land the IBF heavyweight title.

Now, with Hrgovic in possession of championship gold, Dubois says there is even more reason than ever to pursue a rematch with the 34-year-old.

"That’s what the future is now, isn’t it," Wardley said on his desire to unify heavyweight titles.

"We all want the belts and it's going to be the last man standing.

"I might potentially fight him [Hrgovic] again, so it’s good to look at him firsthand [against Itauma] and see how that fight played out."

Dubois was ringside as Hrgovic derailed Itauma's world title bid, casting an eye on the newly crowned champion ahead of a blockbuster unification dust-up next year.

Dubois produced a clinical performance to dispatch of Hrgovic in 2024, sealing a stunning eighth round TKO victory -- a result he will look to replicate if and when the pair trade leather for a second time.
