Take a look at the latest odds for Count Binface to win the Clacton by-election.
A novelty candidate, created by Jonathan David Harvey, who initially stood as Lord Buckethead against then-prime minister Theresa May in Maidenhead in 2017, Harvey has since stood as Count Binface.
Harvey has contested the 2019 and 2024 general election, the 2021 and 2024 London mayoral elections, the 2023 Uxbridge and South Ruislip by-election and the 2026 Makerfield by-election.
In all elections Harvey has ever stood in, he's never won more than 1.0% of the vote. This time, however, Harvey has a legitimate chance of winning.
Reform leader Nigel Farage stood down as an MP on Tuesday 7th July, meaning the investigation into his financial affairs would be stopped.
As a result, the other major parties have all declined to put candidates forward, suggesting Farage could be re-elected, have his investigation re-opened, and potentially face suspension from parliament leading to another by-election.
It's led to a bizarre two-horse race between the man many thought would be the next prime minister, and a novelty candidate who once listed 'nationalise Adele' on his manifesto.
Farage at 1/8 is understandably the big favourite, but while Harvey was previously there for novelty purposes with no chance of victory, he has a legitimate -- albeit small -- chance of victory this time around, currently priced at 9/2 to win.
