England have been rocked by reports that Tino Livramento will be forced to pull out of the 2026 World Cup through injury.
The Newcastle United defender was named in Thomas Tuchel's 26-man squad for the tournament in North America, despite injuries limiting him to just 14 Premier League starts last season.
A report from the Telegraph on Tuesday claimed that Livramento is expected to be ruled out following a reoccurrence of the hamstring injury that curtailed much of his club campaign.
The news comes just one day before the Three Lions are scheduled to kickoff their Group L campaign against Croatia at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Livramento played the second half of England's warm-up friendly with New Zealand last week, but missed the subsequent win against Costa Rica - watching on from the bench as they recorded a 3-0 win.
With a last-minute replacement set to be drafted in, we've taken a look at the options that could replace Livramento in England's World Cup squad.
According to reports surrounding Livramento's injury, Trevoh Chalobah is currently the leading contender to travel to be a late addition to Tuchel's squad.
On first glance Chalobah doesn't appear to be a like-for-like replacement for Livramento, with the Chelsea defender primarily deployed as a centre-back, rather than playing on right side of defence.
However, Chalobah has deputised on the flank at club level, though concerningly only once last season - playing the full 90 minutes at right back as Chelsea were beaten 3-1 by Leeds United at Elland Road in December.
The 26-year-old also has very little experience at international level.
After representing England at multiple youth levels, Chalobah had to wait until last year to make his first senior appearance for the Three Lions - making his debut in the 3-1 defeat against Senegal last summer.
Chalobah has long been a favourite of Tuchel, with the German bringing him into the fold during his time at Chelsea manager.
While it appears Chalobah will get the nod to replace Livramento in England's World Cup squad, it appears that there would've been a more obvious replacement in the form of his Newcastle team-mate Lewis Hall.
Hall was one of the most surprising omissions from Tuchel's squad when it was originally announced last month.
The 21-year-old was coming off an impressive campaign at St James' Park, and reports suggest his performances have convinced Chelsea to sign him again this summer - having initially allowed him to join the Magpies in August 2023.
Like Chalobah, Hall is not a natural right back - but crucially he is more accustomed to playing on the flanks and has stepped in on the right side at club level when called upon by Eddie Howe.
Against Nottingham Forest last month Hall played on the right for the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw in Livramento's absence, with fellow England international Dan Burn slotting in on the opposite flank.
Another player that was unfortunate not earn to earn automatic berth to this summer's festivities in the United States, Mexico and Canada was Trent Alexander-Arnold.
It's fair to say the 27-year-old's first season with Real Madrid has not gone to plan.
Various injuries limited his involvement for Los Blancos amid a generally tumultuous campaign for the club that was characterised by issues between management and players and ultimately ended trophyless.
However, Alexander-Arnold remains one of the best passers in world football and possesses a wealth of experience at the very highest levels of the game.
While has defensive abilities have often come into question, Alexander-Arnold is at least a right-back by trade and could change the game from the bench if Tuchel opted to call upon him.
Since the former Bayern Munich boss took the reins with the national team, Alexander-Arnold has made just one international appearance, coming off the bench in a 1-0 win over minnows Andorra 12 months ago.
