Celtic to target Championship winger in January

Celtic are reportedly plotting a January move to sign Blackburn Rovers winger Ryoya Morishita.

The Scottish Premiership champions enquired about the player on transfer deadline day last week, but Blackburn refused to agree to a move late in the day.

Journalist Alan Nixon has reported that Celtic remain interested in signing Morishita when the transfer window reopens on January 1st.

It is believed that Celtic will continue to monitor the player's performances with a view to revisiting a potential deal.

Morishita arrived at Ewood Park last summer after the club swooped to secure his services from Polish side Legia Warsaw.

The 29-year-old, who can operate on the wing or in a more central role, scored four goals in 37 appearances last season.

He remains a key part of Tony Mowbray's side this season, particularly after Mowbray was left frustrated with the club's own endeavours in the transfer market.

Celtic have started the new season well despite a summer of transfer activity and Martin O'Neill will be keeping an eye on Morishita's progress over the next few weeks.
