Celtic are reportedly closing in on the signing of Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a season-long loan.
The Hoops have made the perfect start in their bid to retain the Scottish Premiership -- winning all of their first three league games -- but they crashed out of the UEFA Champions League in dismal fashion last Thursday.
After beating LASK 3-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League play-off, Celtic fell to a humiliating 5-1 defeat in the reverse leg in Austria, seeing them drop to the Europa League for the 2026/27 campaign.
Celtic's need for recruitment in the goalkeeper department has been glaring this summer, and with just over 48 hours to go before the transfer window closes in Scotland, they look set to provide Viljami Sinisalo with some much-needed competition.
As per Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, Celtic have agreed a deal to sign Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a season-long loan.
The Glasgow giants are reportedly set to pay a substantial chunk of the stopper's wages, with the 33-year-old set to undergo his medical at the Bhoys' training ground before officially completing the move.
Johnstone -- who emerged through the Manchester United youth academy between 2011 and 2018 -- joined Wolves from Crystal Palace for a £10m fee in 2024.
The goalkeeper played second fiddle to Portugal international Jose Sa for the majority of his time at Molineux, but he did feature on 12 occasions in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign as Wolves suffered the drop to the Championship.
Martin O'Neill has been heavily reliant on Sinisalo since Kasper Schmeichel called a day on his professional playing career in May, and so Johnstone is expected to provide healthy competition at Celtic Park.
