Casemiro in 'final stages' of joining Inter Miami

Inter Miami are close to signing Brazil international Casemiro, according to reports.

The Manchester United midfielder announced that he would leave Old Trafford in January of this year, following a mutual decision not to renew his contract.

At the time, it was not decided where Casemiro would go next, however, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that he is close to joining MLS side Inter Miami, where he will link up with former El Clasico rivals Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

"Inter Miami have been at final stages of deal to sign Casemiro for months," Romano posted on X.

"Casemiro wants Miami as next destination, with clear expectation to sign soon. The Brazilian wanted to finish season at Man Utd then sign with Inter Miami."

Often criticised early on during his time with United, the 34-year-old has performed well this season, winning over the Old Trafford faithful, with some demonstrating their appreciation by chanting "One more year, Casemiro", during United's 3-1 victory over Aston Villa earlier this year.

His contributions this season, nine goals and two assists in 33 Premier League starts, have played an invaluable part in United's surge up the table under Michael Carrick.

The Englishman took over from Ruben Amorim in January, initially on a temporary basis but, after returning the club to the Champions League for the first time since 2023/24, it is widely expected that Carrick will sign a two-year deal at Old Trafford.

However, Carrick will be without Casemiro when club football restarts following this summer's World Cup.

The former Real Madrid and Porto midfielder has been named as part of Carlo Ancelotti's 26-man squad heading to North America shortly. Selecao have been drawn alongside Morocco, Haiti and Scotland in Group C but will face Panama and Egypt in two warm-up matches before beginning their official World Cup campaign.

Brazil are 8/1 to lift the trophy for a record-extending sixth time.
