Two-time champions Carlos Alcaraz is set to miss the 2026 Wimbledon Championships due to a wrist injury that has already ruled him out of next month's French Open.
The Spaniard has been out of action since he withdrew from the Barcelona Open in April after suffering discomfort during his first round clash with Finland's Otto Virtanen, where he went on to win 6-4, 6-2.
He subsequently pulled out of the Italian Open, in which Jannik Sinner emerged victorious in his home nation, and the forthcoming French Open, denying him the opportunity to retain two honours that he clinched in 2025.
Alcaraz's absence from Wimbledon proved yet another blow in what has been a frustrating 2026 thus far, depriving him of the chance to reclaim the Grand Slam tournament after winning it for a second successive occasion in 2024.
Alcaraz took to Instagram to confirm that he has withdrawn from Wimbledon.
A statement read: "My recovery is going well and I'm feeling much better, but unfortunately I'm still not ready to compete, which is why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen's and Wimbledon.
"They are two truly special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot. We'll keep working to come back as soon as possible."
Alcaraz was denied a third successive Wimbledon honour when falling to defeat against Sinner over four sets in the 2025 final, losing his 24-match winning streak in the process.
It was the Spaniard's first loss in a major final and prevented him from becoming the first man to defend the Channel Slam since Bjorn Borg.
Alcaraz last tasted success at Wimbledon in 2024, where he defeated Serbian great Novak Djokovic in the final for a second consecutive year.
His absence this time round opens a huge door for Sinner, who now looks a shoo-in to retain the Grand Slam tournament, while Djokovic will be seeking an eighth triumph at Wimbledon after last emerging victorious in 2022.
