Burnley are reportedly interested in signing Dennis Cirkin after the full-back left Sunderland as a free agent.
Cirkin is currently available on a free transfer after his Sunderland contract came to an end at the end of last season.
According to a report from journalist Alan Nixon, Burnley are targeting a move for the former England youth international this summer.
After dropping back down into the Championship the Clarets have had a busy start in the transfer market with new manager Nicky Hayen at the helm.
The club already have a significant war chest after several big-money departures and they have signed Spanish winger Lluc Castell from Espanyol.
The signing of a player of Cirkin's experience would prove an astute piece of business for Burnley - particularly given there would be no transfer fee to pay.
A product of Tottenham Hotspur's academy, Cirkin joined Sunderland in August 2021 as the Black Cats were languishing in League One.
He would go on to be a regular feature as the club were promoted back into the second tier and remained a key figure in the Championship in the years that followed.
Last season however, Cirkin found minutes hard to come by under Regis Le Bris, with the Frenchman preferring new signing Reinildo at left back.
The 24-year-old was limited to just three Premier League starts as the North East club secured an impressive seventh-placed finish on their return to the top flight.
He was ultimately not offered a new deal, and left Sunderland last month having made 126 appearances for the club in all competitions over the course of five seasons.
At the time of his departure Cirkin was one of just four players that had featured for Sunderland in both League One and the Premier League.
