QPR star linked with surprise Burnley transfer

Burnley are reportedly interested in signing defender Ronnie Edwards from Queens Park Rangers this summer.

Edwards joined QPR from Southampton for a fee of £4.5 million in January after impressing on loan during the 2024/25 campaign.

After arriving at St Mary's in the summer of 2024, Edwards was unable to break into the team in the Premier League but he has thrived in the Championship since moving to London.

The 23-year-old made 16 appearances for QPR last season following his permanent arrival and his performances have already attracted admirers.

West London Sport have reported that Burnley are showing an interest as they look to build a team capable of returning to the top-flight at the first attempt.

Any sale would surely have to be a substantial profit given the recency of his move to QPR and the impact he has had since his arrival.

Edwards was one of the best young defenders in the EFL during his time at Peterborough United and he also went on to represent England at Under 21 level.

However, his club career stuttered after joining Southampton and the regular football he is enjoying at QPR is exactly what he needs at what is still a relatively young age.

Burnley are amongst the promotion favourites ahead of the new campaign but it remains to be seen whether the club and Edwards would be open to an early exit from his current contract.
