The 2026 British Touring Cars Championship calendar consists of 10 rounds across eight different venues.
Traditionally opening at Donington Park in April, the season concludes at the iconic Brands Hatch on the Grand Prix circuit in October.
All cars on the British Touring Cars Championship have been built to the same NGTC (Next Generation Touring Cars) regulations, which were introduced to help teams compete on a level playing field whilst ensuring the costs of competing are reduced.
Each event on the BTCC calendar is run across a Saturday and Sunday. On the Saturday, there is one Free Practice session which lasts 40 minutes, giving teams and drivers to find a correct setup before two 15-minute qualifying sessions.
In 2026, a new qualifying race has been introduced. The grid for the qualifying race is decided by the qualifying sessions.
On the Sunday, there are three races of equal distance. The grid for the first race is decided by the result of the qualifying race, and the grid for the second race is decided by the finishing order of the first race.
However, whilst the grid for race three is decided by finishing position, there is a reversed-grid twist. Numbers representing the cars that finished from sixth to 12th position in race two are put into a bowl, and one number is drawn at random. The corresponding car will start on pole, with the cars that finished ahead of it reversed.
Crews and teams score points in every round with the aim of amassing the most points to win the championship.
The points system for the Qualifying Race is 10-9-8-7-6-5-5-4-4-3-3-2-2-1-1 for the top 15 finishers.
The points system to be used in Sunday's races is 20-17-15-13-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 for the top 15 finishers.
Bonus points are on offer for the fastest lap in each Sunday race and for leading a lap in either of the two races.
The British Touring Cars Championship was established in 1958 as the British Saloon Car Championship before it adopted its current form in 1987.
The competition has been running the NGTC regulations since 2011, which were implemented to help reduce the running costs for competitors whilst rewarding engineering accomplishments and strategy decisions.
There have been several multiple winners of the BTCC, with Colin Turkington and Ashley Sutton sharing the record with four titles apiece. Jason Plato is the winningest driver in BTCC history, recording 97 victories during his career.
BMW are the most successful manufacturer in BTCC, winning 10 titles from 1991, including seven in a row from 2016. They're trailed by Vauxhall who are on nine, with the Astra Coupe, Astra Sport and Vectra delivering eight titles in succession during a dominant start to the new century.
