2026 British Champions Day Prize Money

British Champions Day is the richest raceday that takes place anywhere across the UK & Ireland.

The stunning seven-race card features five Group 1s, sandwiched between a lucrative £250,000 two-year-old conditions contest and the notoriously competitive Balmoral Handicap that rounds off proceedings.

Ascot were handed the meeting in 2011 and has quickly become one of the most revered days in the British racing calendar.

The Champion Stakes is the feature race on the card and has been won by the likes of New Approach, Frankel and Cracksman since the turn of the century.

There is a total of £1.3m put up for the Champion Stakes alone, with £737,000 of that heading straight to the winner. Calandagan is bidding to become the first back-to-back winner since the aforementioned Cracksman, but will not have it easy, with Ombudsman and Bay City Roller set to line up in opposition.

The QEII is the second-richest prize on the day and precedes the Champion Stakes.

Godolphin have supplemented Talk Of New York for the race after his win at Newmarket and there is more international interest as Francis-Henri Graffard saddles Prix Jacques le Marois winner Rayif. 100/1 chance Cicero's Gift caused a huge upset when winning this in 2025 and taking home £665,000 in the process.

The Champion Fillies' & Mares Stakes has gone the way of Kalpana in each of the last two years and she is bidding for a hat-trick to add another £280,000 to tip her total career earnings above the £3m mark.
