Bolton Wanderers have been promoted to the Championship after beating Stockport County 3-1 in the League One play-off final on Sunday afternoon.
At a hot and humid Wembley Stadium, Wanderers made the perfect start as Ruben Rodrigues took advantage of some slack defending to break the deadlock after just 160 seconds.
Dave Challinor's side had spent the majority of the season in and around the top six and showed their resilience to bounce back and dictate proceedings for the next 30 minutes.
Stockport were rewarded for their dominance as Adama Sidibeh, who had a goal disallowed 17 minutes earlier, equalised with a wonderful finish into the far corner.
While it looked like extra-time and penalties could potentially be on the cards with both sides having chances, Steven Schumacher's side seized control and the decisive moment came in the 65th minute.
Stockport striker Kyle Wootton had been producing some incredible displays for his team as an emergency centre-half in recent weeks, but he was extremely unfortunate as he was responsible for an own goal as Bolton regained the lead.
Wanderers didn't look back and doubled their advantage as substitute Sam Dalby made an instant impact by producing a wonder strike to calm any nerves as we entered the closing stages.
The icing on the cake came in stoppage time as Stockport's Josh Dacres-Cogley was sent off for pulling Ibrahim Cissoko's hair and Rodrugues ended the game the same way he started it as he slotted home the spot kick.
