Birmingham City, Wolves and Southampton all chasing late deal for Colombian defender

A trio of Championship clubs are primed to battle it out in a bid to sign Brayan Medina before the transfer window slams shut.

The highly-rated Colombian defender has attracted significant attention this summer as he looks set to leave Portuguese side Tondela following the club's relegation from the Primeira Liga.

Serie A side Genoa initially appeared to be the frontrunners to sign him but they now reportedly face competition from multiple English teams.

According to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, Birmingham City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton have all thrown their hat in the ring as the transfer deadline draws closer.

Championship

Medina is said to favour a transfer to the Championship, and a move to St Andrew's would allow the 24-year-old to link up with his compatriot Jhon Solis.

Meanwhile a transfer to Wolves would allow him to join his countryman Yerson Mosquera in defence.

After emerging at Colombian top-flight side America de Cali the left-footed centre-back joined Tondela last summer in a deal worth a reported €2.5million (£2m).

In his maiden season in European football he made 27 appearances in all competitions but was unable to prevent Tondela dropping out of the Portuguese top flight.

After starting the first two games of the new campaign, Medina was left out of Tondela's squad for their clash with Coimbra last weekend as he nears a move away from the Estadio Joao Cardoso.
