When will Birmingham City's new stadium design be revealed?

The wheels are in motion for Birmingham City's ambitious plans to construct a stunning, state-of-the-art new stadium.

Knighthead Capital Management, who own a 45.96% controlling stake in the club, are pressing ahead with their proposal to create a £3 billion Sports Quarter in the city and a 62,000-seat stadium for the Blues is at the heart of the project.

Birmingham have resided at St Andrew's since 1906 and the new stadia would be double the capacity of their current home.

Knighthead expect the club to be using its new stadium ahead of the 2030/31 season and the venue has been earmarked to host music concerts and NFL matches.

When will the stadium design be revealed?

Birmingham City's new stadium design will officially be unveiled at 15:00 GMT on Thursday 20th November.

The club's chairman, Tom Wagner, stated the new stadium will be "something internationally special" and the project will incorporate themes of the city's industrial past.

Who will be designing the stadium?

Wagner revealed the identity of the design and architect team who will bring the proposed 62,000-seater stadia to life is Heatherwick Studio and MANICA.

Kansas-based architecture giants MANICA have designed some of the world's most recognisable stadiums, with their portfolio including the new Wembley Stadium and the renovation work of Barcelona's Nou Camp.

Heatherwick Studio, a multi-award winning architecture firm, have been involved in commercial and cultural projects across the world.

Both groups will be supported in the design process by Peaky Blinders director and Birmingham City fan Steven Knight, who revealed it was a huge honour to be selected as part of the committee.

Knight said: "We talked about design and how to reflect the history of where we've come from, what's happened in the 150 years since Birmingham City was formed."
