Bayern Munch 2-1 Aston Villa: Match Stats & Timeline

Aston Villa concluded their preparations ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup contest with a 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in Hong Kong.

Goals from Kim Min Jae and Luis Diaz gave Bayern a 2-0 lead, before a late screamer from Joao Gomes brought Villa back into the match.

Min Jae's headed goal from a freekick was the only real highlight of an uneventful, relatively even first half, which saw both sides struggle without their major attacking talent, as the midfield battle ruled the contest.

Bayern came out the much better side in the second half, with Marco Bizot forced into a number of saves in the Villa net, including a spectacular double save to keep the scores at 1-0.

The German outfit asserted greater control on proceedings after making changes, with Diaz and Joao Palhinha adding quality that the game had lacked prior.

It was Diaz who doubled the Bavarians' lead, cutting inside onto his right foot to curl one past Bizot, though the Dutchman may be disappointed he didn't keep it out.

The game looked to be petering out as Bayern professionally controlled things, before a flurry of young substitutes for the Villans added some much needed energy.

Gomes latched onto a Lamare Bogarde cut back to rifle one home from outside the box in the 83rd minute and Tammy Abraham thought he'd equalised just a minute later, only for Neuer to pull off a top save to deny him.

Villa controlled proceedings from thereon in, but were ultimately unable to find an equaliser, with the match ending as a 2-1 win for the German champions.
