Babar Azam will captain Pakistan during their Test series' against the West Indies and England.
The 31-year-old returns for his second spell as Pakistan skipper to replace Shan Masood, who led the team for more than three years.
Despite being relieved of his captaincy duties, Masood has retained his place in the Pakistan squad for their two-match series against the West Indies and the subsequent three-match showdown with England.
Alongside Azam's reintroduction as captain, fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has also been dropped from the squad following a disappointing 2-0 series defeat against Bangladesh earlier this year.
Afridi is one of an experienced trio of names to be omitted from the squad with Hasan Ali and Noman Ali.
The dwindling speeds of Pakistan's pace attack became very obvious during their series loss to Bangladesh, with director of high performance Aaqib Javed branding a drop in pace on the second or third day of a Test match as "unacceptable".
20-year-old right-armer Ubaid Shah has been included in a bid to address those concerns and has taken 72 first-class wickets in 16 matches since making his debut in October 2024.
Pakistan opted to end Masood's spell as captain after presiding over 12 losses in 16 Test matches. It was believed that T20I skipper Salman Agha was in line to be offered a go at the Test role, however, Javed claimed that Azam was the only candidate put forward by the selection committee.
Pakistan's first Test against West Indies begins on 25th July in Tarouba, while the second will be played at Queen's Park Oval from 2-6th August.
They will then travel over to England where they will play three matches at Headingley (19-23), Lord's (August 27-31) and Edgbaston (September 9-13).
