The 23rd Commonwealth Games start in the Scottish city of Glasgow on Thursday 23rd July with a host of medals up for grabs in 11 different sports.
Here are 10 performers to keep your eye on during the sporting extravaganza.
Josh Kerr (Athletics)
This should be a great homecoming for Scottish middle-distance runner Josh Kerr, who stunned the London Stadium last week by breaking the world mile record in a time of 3.42.66 at the Diamond League meeting.
He was 12th in the 1,500m at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham four years ago and it would be a huge surprise if the 2023 world champion did not set the stage alight running in his home country.
Eilish McColgan (Athletics)
Eilish McColgan has won four European Championship medals and is one of the most familiar faces in British Athletics.
Following in the footsteps of her mother Liz, she will be at her fourth Commonwealth Games, with the Birmingham meet-up four years ago producing her finest hour when she won the 10,000m in a games record of 30.48.60
Matthew Richardson (Cycling)
Matthew Richardson is a sprint cyclist who will be representing England this time after previously competing for Australia, for whom he won gold medals four years ago.
Richardson, who was born in Kent, won three medals for Australia at the Paris Olympics and is the only cyclist to have broken nine seconds in a 200m time-trial.
Emma Finucane (Cycling)
Emma Finucane is one of the Welsh team’s main stars after she won a gold medal alongside Katy Marchant and Sophie Capewell in the women’s team sprint for Great Britain at the Paris Olympics.
Glasgow was the scene of her first elite world title in the individual sprint at the 2023 Track World Championships, which she successfully defended a year later in Denmark.
Marios Georgiou (Gymnastics)
Marios Georgiou is the star of Cypriot gymnastics and he is expected to make a big impression after collecting the European all-round championship in 2024.
He has already tasted Commonwealth success with wins in the floor and parallel-bar disciplines at the Gold Coast in 2018 and he collected four bronze medals, including the team event, in Birmingham four years ago.
Lovlina Borgohain (Boxing)
India’s Lovlina Borgohain is one to keep an eye on in the boxing ring.
The welterweight heads to Glasgow having lost in the quarter-finals at the Gold Coast eight years ago, but she has come on leaps and bounds since then, winning gold in the Asian championships and again at the 2023 world championships in New Delhi.
She also showed her class by winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Adam Ramsey-Peaty (Swimming)
English breaststroker Adam Ramsey-Peaty is a true all-time British swimming great, winning three Olympic titles.
He has four Commonwealth Games gold medals to his name, going right back to the last occasion they were held in Glasgow in 2014, and he will be one of the most recognisable names competing at the Games.
Rafiatu Lawal (Weightlifting)
Nigeria’s Rafiatu Lawal will be looking for a similarly dominant display to the one she put together in Birmingham four years ago when she set three Commonwealth Games records on her way to the 59kg gold medal.
She lifted 90kg in the snatch and 116kg in the clean and jerk, and built upon that performance by winning three silver medals at the 2025 World Championships and an impressive fifth spot at the Paris Olympics.
Julius Yego (Javelin)
Julius Yego is one of the stars of a strong Kenyan athletics team and will be hoping to repeat the gold-medal success he enjoyed in Glasgow 12 years ago.
He went from strength to strength following that triumph by winning the World Championships with a throw of 92.72 metres, which is still an African record and he was also second at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
He claimed bronze in Birmingham four years ago and will hope to still make a big impression despite now being 37.
Muzala Samuhonga (Athletics)
Zambian Muzala Samuhonga looks like the man to beat in the 400m after he finished third at the Paris Olympics in a time of 43.74, which was almost a second quicker than the one he posted to win the Commonwealth title in Birmingham when he was just 19 two years previously.
He is also expected to be the mainstay of the Zambian 4x400 relay team, who will be intent on improving on the fifth spot they achieved in Birmingham.
