Arsenal v Coventry City tips from the Football Betting Club

Arsenal get their Premier League title defence underway on Friday night as they welcome new boys Coventry City to the Emirates.

The Gunners head into a Premier League season as defending champions for the first time since 2004 and will be out to avoid a massive upset by putting Frank Lampard's side to the sword.

The World Cup has hampered the champions' start to the season, with William Saliba out injured and doubts around the fitness of the likes of Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, though reinforcements have arrived in the shape of Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis with Ezri Konsa also set to join.

Mikel Arteta's men are short-priced favourites to win on Friday night, and while Mark Stinchcombe expects a comfortable enough victory, he's spotted an alternative bet for Friday night.

Best Bet: Under 3.5 cards @ 5/6

"What I've landed upon is a bit of a niche angle perhaps," said Mark on the Football Betting Club podcast.

"Generally, what happens in a match where you've got a big mismatch in odds is a comfortable victory for the big favourites and once they get into a sort of two-, three-goal lead, the game sort of plays out in a casual manner and what that leads to is generally a lack of cards, so I'm a little bit surprised the card line is 3.5, 5/6 each the pair.

"Even it was 3.5 I'd expect the unders to be the favourite so I'm quite happy to lean on that.

"And when you look a little bit deeper, I think it does make logical sense; Arsenal were the cleanest team in the Premier League last season, they picked up the fewest cards.

"Coventry had the fourth fewest in the Championship last season, and if you look at Arsenal at the beginning last season, 11 of their 15 matches had fewer than four cards, and no surprise the exceptions came against Spurs, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool.

"Coventry began the season in a similar manner away from home; six of their first nine games went under 3.5 cards and the match referee, Thomas Brammall, he took charge of one Arsenal Premier League game last season in October at the Emirates at home to Crystal Palace and that produced zero cards in what was a narrow 1-0 Arsenal win.

"Just throwing it out there, zero cards is 14/1 for anyone that likes a bigger price."
