The 2026 World Cup kicked off on June 11, and we'll look at which player will make the biggest impact on soccer's most prestigious tournament.
In 2022's edition, Kylian Mbappe was the top scorer with seven goals. Lionel Messi was just behind with six goals while his teammate, Julian Alvarez, and Mbappe's teammate, Olivier Giroud, each tied for third with four goals.
Let's take a look at the top goalscorer odds for the 2026 World Cup.

Lionel Messi is the favorite to be the 2026 World Cup's top goalscorer after scoring a hat trick in the opening match against Algeria, a brace against Austria, at one goals in each of the next three games.
Messi has now scored the most World Cup goals in the history of the tournament (21), but Kylian Mbappe is just two goals behind him with 19.
Mbappe, 26, has scored 63 goals in 103 career games for his national team. With France having the shortest odds to lift the World Cup trophy this year, Mbappe will likely have plenty of more chances to score throughout the tournament.
Norway's terminator, Erling Haaland, is another favorite for good reason. Haaland scored a brace in his World Cup Debut as Norway dismantled Iraq 4-1, and added five more goals in the next three games.
The legendary English forward Harry Kane has been a goal-magnet throughout his career and scored 64 total goals for Bayern Munich this season, winning Europe's Golden Boot. Kane has brought his tally to six goals in five games.
Mbappe's French teammate Ousmane Dembele has inserted his name in the conversation as well, scoring a hat trick against Norway to bring his tournament tally to four goals.
