Lionel Messi has overtaken Kylian Mbappe in the top goalscorer odds after scoring a brace in the opening match against Algeria.

Messi is now tied for the most World Cup goals in the history of the tournament (16), but Mbappe is just two goals behind him with 14.

Mbappe, 26, has scored 56 goals in 98 career games for his national team and tallied 25 goals for Real Madrid in La Liga this season. With France having the second-shortest odds to lift the trophy, Mbappe will get plenty of chances to score throughout the tournament.

The legendary English forward Harry Kane has been a goal-magnet throughout his career and scored 64 total goals for Bayern Munich this season, winning Europe's Golden Boot. Kane is +800 to be the tournaments leading scorer and is one of the best finishers in the sport.

Norway's terminator, Erling Haaland (+800) is another favorite for good reason. Haaland scored a brace in his World Cup Debut as Norway dismantled Iraq 4-1.
