Preview of Group J in the 2026 World Cup, featuring Argentina, Austria, Algeria, and Jordan.
The Argentinians lead Group J and are looking to become just the third country to win back-to-back World Cups after they knocked off France in an epic final last year.
Italy in 1934 and 1938 and Brazil in 1958 and 1962 are the only two teams to win back-to-back cups, and there's no doubt that Argentina doing it in the 2020s would be one of the most impressive feats in soccer history.
None of the three other teams in Group J have been seen at the World Cup since 2014: Austria last qualified in 1998, Algeria was last in it in 2014, and Jordan secured its first ever qualification.

Still led by the 38-year-old Lionel Messi, Argentina has a terrific blend of veterans from the 2022 championship squad and young, rising talent.
Manager Lionel Scaloni has coached the team since 2018, giving them some stabilization and championship experience from their head man.
Austria is a dark-horse pick in the tournament, also having a nice blend of vets and rising stars. Marcel Sabitzer is the primary engine in the midfield, while Marco Arnautovic is a physically imposing and experienced striker.
Manager Ralf Rangnick has managed the team since 2022 and has made Austria an aggressive passing offense, making them formidable in European soccer.
Algeria reached the Round of 16 in their last World Cup appearance in 2014 and are hoping to get out of the group stage once again in 2026.
They finished atop Group G in the African qualifiers with 22 points, led by forward Mohamed Amoura who scored 10 goals in the qualifying campaign.
Captain Riyad Mahrez and manager Vladimir Petkovic lead the veteran team.
Jordan had a standout run in the AFC qualifiers, and reached the 2023 AFC Asian Cup final, so they've had some success since the previous World Cup in 2022.
Mousa Al-Tamari is their leader - he has a fast pace and is creative with the ball, playing for Ligue 1 club Rennes.
