Who is Trey Yesavage, The Blue Jays Surprise World Series Ace

Trey Yesavage's first start of 2025 was in front of 327 spectators, in the same year he has been the Blue Jays' most dominant starting pitcher.

Yesavage pitched at East Carolina University for three years and was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2024. He caught the attention of the Toronto Blue Jays, and they drafted him 20th overall in the 2024 MLB Draft.

The Jays' rookie righty started the season in Single-A for the Dunedin Blue Jays, and has had an improbable rise to stardom.

Yesavage started seven games for Dunedin before getting moved up to High-A. He pitched four games in High-A before getting pushed up again to Double-A. He played eight games for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, and the Blue Jays were again impressed with his abilities.

The Pottstown, PA product then got pushed up to Triple-A. Yesavage made six appearances in Triple-A and struck out 26 batters in 17.1 innings.

He was striking out batters everywhere he went, and racked up 160 strikeouts in just 97.3 innings in the minors.

The Blue Jays struggled with starting pitching in 2025. Their starting pitchers had the worst combined ERA of the teams who made the playoffs, so when a kid came flying through their minor league system, the Jays took notice.

Toronto called him up to the big leagues and he made his first start against the Tampa Bay Rays on September 15th, 2025. Trey David Yesavage pitched five innings, allowed three hits, one run, and struck out nine batters.

Yesavage pitched three games in the regular season before the Playoffs began, and Toronto won all thee games.

Yesavage's arm slot is the highest in the MLB, making his pitches difficult to read from the batters box. He has great command of his fastball that he can put up in the zone, and mixes in a mean splitter and a slider that both drop out of the zone.

In his first outing in the playoffs, Yesavage was un-hit-able. He tossed 5.1 scoreless innings, only walked one batter, and struck out 11. The kid was already taking Toronto and the league by storm.

The rookie started two games against the Seattle Mariners in the ALCS, a series Toronto would go on to win in seven games.

Game one of the 2025 World Series was set for October 24, 2025, and Yesavage was named the starter. He only tossed four innings in Game 1, allowed four hits, two runs, and struck out five against the star-studded lineup of the Los Angles Dodgers.

With the series tied 2-2, and heading to Game 5, The 22-year-old was called upon again.

Trey was dominant in the Blue Jays' 6-1 win. He tossed seven innings and fanned 12 batters along the way. He only allowed one run on three hits, and made history in the process. He struck out more batters than any other rookie pitcher in the history of the World Series.

Game 5 of the World Series was just his third away start in the MLB, and if he was at all nervous, you couldn't tell.

39 Ks in the playoffs is impressive as it is, but given the fact that he's on 22, its even more jaw-dropping.
