Real Betis are one of just five teams to have won all three of their UEFA Champions League games this season but they face a tough test as they visit Dortmund on Wednesday.
The Bundesliga side have won two and lost one of their three league-phase matches and held Bayern Munich to a 2-2 tie in this weekend’s Der Klassiker. This should be an intriguing clash in Germany.
Dortmund and Betis have both had strong starts to the season but this game could be closer than the odds are suggesting.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side have slowly become a very difficult team to face under the veteran coach, particularly in Europe. Betis reached the final of the Conference League in 2024/25 and were quarter-finalists in the Europa League last season.
Betis have started this UEFA Champions League campaign in impressive style too, beating Porto, Feyenoord and Lille to remain a perfect three from three.
Domestic form has been strong too, with Betis fourth in La Liga and having lost just one of their last 11 games, a defeat to high-flying Barcelona.
The Spaniards have won eight of those 11 matches and they will be a real challenge for Dortmund, who did well to hold rivals Bayern to a 2-2 tie at the weekend.
Nico Kovac’s men lost 1-0 away to Bodo/Glimt in their second European game of the season, with wins over Villarreal and Sabah either side of that game.
BVB needed two late goals to see off the Yellow Submarine in that clash, however, and Betis have been a step up on their La Liga rivals this season.
The visitors cannot be underestimated in this one and they are worth siding with to at least avoid defeat on their trip to Germany.
Troy Parrott has been one of the major success stories in Irish football over the past few years and he has taken his game to the next level over the last 18 months, earning a move to Betis after an impressive run in the Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar.
The striker impressed for the Dutch team in Europe, scoring seven goals in the Europa League and Conference League across his two seasons there.
Parrott picked up where he left off with the crucial goal in Betis’s 3-2 win over Lille earlier this season and he looks set to lead the line for Pellegrini’s men with main striking rival Cucho Hernandez injured.
Betis are not a team who are afraid of getting shots away and one player who regularly lets fly is winger Abdessamad Ezzalzouli.
The Moroccan already has four goals for his club in all competitions and is averaging a whopping 3.45 shots per 90 minutes.
Expect more of the same for Ezzalzouli and he is fancied to have at least three attempts in Dortmund.
