Tyson Philpot Is Chasing Canadian Records and CFL History

Montreal Alouettes wide receiver Tyson Philpot has been sensational in 2026 and is chasing some historic CFL milestones down the final stretch of the season.

At the end of July, in a game against the Ottawa Redblacks, Tyson Philpot became the fastest Canadian to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a season, achieving the feat in just eight games. This also tied the all-time record for the fewest games to 1,000 yards in a season in CFL history.

Philpot currently leads the CFL with 1,528 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns through 14 games. With four games remaining, the 26-year-old from British Columbia is nearing further historic records and stands on the verge of breaking multiple benchmarks for a Canadian player.

The Montreal Alouettes receiver has finally enjoyed an injury-free run for the first time since his rookie year—having missed 20 games over the previous three seasons—and is putting that availability to good use. Philpot is averaging over seven catches, 109 yards, and just under one touchdown per game in 2026.

Tyson Philpot Chasing Historic CFL Receiving Records

The next record Philpot can break is well within reach. Terry Evanshen currently holds the record for the most receiving yards by a Canadian player in CFL history, which has stood for 59 years. Evanshen set the record at 1,662 receiving yards back in 1967 while playing for the Calgary Stampeders, and Philpot is only 134 receiving yards away.

With 1,528 yards already, Philpot's season currently ranks as the sixth-best mark among Canadian receivers in CFL history. Philpot has racked up over 130 yards five times already this year, meaning he could break Evanshen's long-standing record very soon.

Evanshen's 1967 season also set the Canadian record for the most receiving touchdowns in a season with 17. Philpot is not currently on pace to break this milestone, but scoring five touchdowns across the final four games of the campaign would allow him to match the mark. The all-time CFL record of 23 receiving touchdowns was set by Milt Stegall in 2002.

Philpot is quite far from the all-time receiving touchdown record, but the all-time receiving yards mark is not entirely out of reach. Allen Pitts holds the record for the most receiving yards in a single CFL season, having racked up 2,036 yards in 1994.

The Montreal receiver is currently on pace for 1,965 receiving yards in 2026, which would go down as the fourth-best tally in league history.

Although it would take a scorching finish to the season, Philpot remains within reach of multiple historic CFL records.
