In a clash between two teams with very high expectations, the Seattle Seahawks visit the Denver Broncos in the Mile High City on Thursday night.
Both teams are 3-2 through the first five weeks of the season and still trying to find a true identity. Both defenses have been solid overall and should finish towards the top of all defensive statistics by the season's end, but the offenses have struggled to find a rhythm.
Seattle's offense has clearly been better than Denver's and they're still averaging plenty of points per game (26.8), but Sam Darnold's addiction to turning the ball over, plus a complete lack of a running game have held them back a bit. Explosives to Jaxon Smith-Njigba have hidden those holes for now, but they'll need to be more dynamic on that side of the ball to score consistently against the upper-echelon NFL teams.
The Broncos defense will be without stars Patrick Surtain II and Talanoa Hufanga in the secondary, while Riley Moss is questionable, so JSN could see some opportunities come his way against some of Denver's backup secondary players.
While the Seahawks do have the Darnold-JSN connection going to spell some of their other weaknesses on offense, the Broncos offense has been a complete mess. Davis Webb and Sean Payton have now each called plays this season, but they haven't found a successful formula yet. Bo Nix's play hasn't helped - he's left several clean pockets, has missed open receivers in every game, and has been very reluctant to throw the ball down the field, but the running game has been nonexistent as well.
For a team that traded for Jaylen Waddle hoping he could unlock the offense, it's been a disaster on that side of the ball so far.
It'll be tough for these offenses to get things going against each respective defense, and touchdowns may be hard to come by. Below is a look at the odds for touchdown scorers in this week's Thursday night matchup, including anytime TD, first TD, multiple TDs, and passing TDs.
