Toluca will play Austin FC in the quarter-finals of Leagues Cup on Wednesday night in New Jersey.
Toluca have been playing relatively well in recent weeks. They are undefeated in their last three matches and have secured two wins from three in the Leagues Cup. During the Leagues Cup group stage, Toluca defeated the Seattle Sounders, lost to LAFC, and subsequently beat FC Dallas to set up this matchup with Austin FC.
Toluca are likely to be without their star forward, Paulinho, once again. The Portuguese forward has missed the entire month of August with a calf injury. Although he is nearing a return, he is not yet ready to start. Fortunately for Toluca, Federico Viñas has been in good form in his absence, scoring three goals in his last five appearances.
Austin FC remain undefeated in this edition of the Leagues Cup, having defeated Tijuana and Puebla before drawing with Club América. Austin FC currently sit 14th in the MLS Western Conference, having won only five of their 21 league matches. They face a difficult test against Toluca and will need goalkeeper Brad Stuver to produce a standout performance if they are to progress to the semi-finals.
Toluca will face Austin FC at Sport Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New jersey, on Wednesday, August 26. The match will kickoff at 8:30 PM EST (5:30 PM PST).
