The Georgia Bulldogs dominated Alabama 28-7 in the 2025 SEC Championship, securing their third conference title in four years (2022, 2024, 2025), and are favored to repeat again in 2026.
Kirby Smart's team is ranked No. 3 in the preseason AP Poll, led by senior quarterback Gunner Stockton, who is returning for his fourth season at Georgia and his second as the starter.
Stockton threw for 2,894 yards, 24 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 2025, but he will need to find a new favorite target after Zachariah Branch departed the program to begin his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons.
SEC Championship Contenders
Outside of Georgia, the Texas Longhorns have the best odds to win the SEC Championship, and are ranked No. 5 in the preseason AP Poll.
Steve Sarkisian has bolstered the Longhorns' offense this year after a disappointing 6-2 record in the SEC last year, bringing in the No. 1 wide receiver in the transfer portal, Cam Coleman, and two star running backs Hollywood Smothers and Raleek Brown, to complement Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback, Arch Manning.
Manning now has a second star receiver to pair with Ryan Wingo, who led the team in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in 2025 (834 yards, seven touchdowns).
Although Alabama has declined since the departure of Nick Saban, Kalen DeBoer's team is still highly capable of making a run, with a winning culture ingrained in Tuscaloosa.
DeBoer recently announced that redshirt freshman Keelon Russell will be the starting quarterback for the Crimson Tide, beating out senior Austin Mack. The silky Ryan Coleman-Williams is expected to be Russell's top target this season, and the offense will need to step up against the likes of Texas and Georgia to compete in the conference.
LSU, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma are all expected to be tough competitors in the SEC this season and are ranked 8–11 in the AP Poll.
Ole Miss was an incredible story last season, reaching the College Football Playoff semi-final with a former Division II quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss, at the helm. Unfortunately for Ole Miss, their controversial head coach, Lane Kiffin, left the program to join conference rival LSU. Chambliss is back at Ole Miss, with Kiffin's defensive coordinator, Pete Golding, taking over as the head coach.
A&M was a rock-solid competitor in 2025, finishing with a 7–1 record in the SEC with star quarterback Marcel Reed, who is returning for his junior year. The void A&M must fill in 2026 is the SEC-leading 11.5 sacks racked up by edge rusher Cashius Howell, who was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals.
