Last January, Fernando Mendoza and the No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers kneeled the ball to secure a 27-21 championship victory over the No. 10 ranked Miami Hurricanes.
Head coach Curt Cignetti led the Hoosiers to their first playoff appearance in program history during his first year last season, and capped it off with the programs first National Championship title in program history. This season, Cignetti is looking to win back-to back National Championships for the first time since the Georgia Bulldogs did so in 2021-22.

Indiana | +800 | Alabama | +1200 |
LSU | +1200 | Texas | +1400 |

USC | +15000 | Wake Forest | +15000 |
Notre Dame (6-1) and Georgia (6-1) are the two favorites to win the National Championship with five games remaining in the regular season. Both teams are coming off their first loss of the season, and one of the biggest questions is how each team responds to losing.
Ohio State (6-1) suffered their only defeat in Week 2 against Texas, and followed it up by winning five consecutive games including two against ranked opponents (Iowa & Indiana). Ohio State leans heavily on their generational wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, but they'll be without their starting quarterback Julian Sayin 'indefinitely' after he suffered a shoulder injury to his throwing arm in the win over Indiana.
The Miami Hurricanes (7-0) have a very different team compared to the one that reach the National Championship last season, but are still on of the favorites to win in 2026/27. Led by quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Malachi Toney, Mario Cristobal's team finds the endzone with ease, but the question is whether their defense can keep them in close games when they inevitably reach the College Football Playoffs.
Indiana (7-1), is still a top-five favorite to win the National Championship this season with new quarterback Josh Hoover. Indiana has looked dominant again this season, but suffered a close 15-19 loss to Ohio State on October 17th.
Multiple SEC teams are looking like potential National Champions midway through the season, including Alabama (6-2), LSU (6-2), Texas (5-2), and Ole Miss (5-2).
LSU has one of the nations best defenses, while Ole Miss has a quarterback in Trinidad Chambliss who can be relied on to create game winning plays when it matters the most.
Other contenders include BYU (6-1) and Utah (7-0) from the Big 12. BYU earned a huge victory against Notre Dame in Week 6, but suffered a poor defeat against UCF the following week. Utah remain undefeated through seven games, but the Utes have not played the same level of competition as the other contenders.
