The showdown pits the reigning champions of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League against each other.

Under Luis Enrique, PSG are enjoying the most successful period in their history. The Spanish manager has broken the club's long-standing Champions League curse, delivering two consecutive titles. Now, the Parisian giants aim to add another Super Cup to their trophy cabinet.
However, PSG's preseason has been mixed. They suffered a heavy 3-0 friendly defeat to Spanish second-division side Mallorca, though Enrique was forced to field a youth-heavy squad due to the absence of key players who participated in the latter stages of the World Cup. While many stars have since returned, their match fitness remains a concern, meaning the lineup against Villa may differ significantly from the one expected to compete for titles throughout the season.
On the other side, Aston Villa and manager Unai Emery are determined to lift the trophy. Emery, a five-time Europa League winner, has a point to prove, having never won the Super Cup in his four previous attempts. He lost twice with Sevilla against Real Madrid (once in extra time) and once against Barcelona (also in extra time) between 2014 and 2016. In 2021, his Villarreal side was defeated on penalties by Chelsea.
