With two games remaining in the NWSL season, the Portland Thorns and North Carolina Courage will face off in a tightly contested match, with playoff qualification on the line.
The top eight teams in the NWSL qualify for the playoffs. The Portland Thorns are currently seventh with a 12-8-8 record and 44 points. The Courage are ninth with a 13-3-12 record and 42 points, but a win tonight would move them above the Thorns. The Seattle Reign are currently eighth and will face the sixth-ranked Utah Royals tonight.
The Thorns have won just one of their last five matches, drawing three times. Their only defeat during that run came against Boston Legacy on October 3.
The Courage have also recorded just one win in their last five matches, losing the other four. North Carolina’s most recent match was a 0-1 defeat to the San Diego Wave. Ashley Sanchez leads the NWSL with 20 goals this season, and her team will need her to help propel them into the playoffs.
