Panama will play in their second World Cup in 2026, after gaining automatic qualification through the Concacaf World Cup qualifying tournament.

Panama's first world cup appearance came in 2018, and now they will play their second tournament out of the last three. Panama will play in a competitive Group L, against England, Croatia and Ghana.

Thomas Christiansen is a former FC Barcelona player, and has been the head coach of Panama since 2020. The Danish manager led the team to a second placed finish in he 2023 Gold Cup, defeated the United States in the semifinal. He then helped earn Panama their second ever World Cup qualification.

Panama National Team History

Panama's National Soccer Team was founded in 1937, and played their first match in 1938. Panama's first game was a 2-1 win over regional rival, Venezuela.

Panama also became a founding member of Concacaf in 1961. Panama's current team reached their highest FIFA World ranking in 2025, and are considered a top-40 team in the world heading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
