Founded in 1909, as part of the National Hockey Association, it became a founding member of the National Hockey League in 1917.

The Montreal Canadiens play their home games at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The Canadiens most recently reached the finals in 2021, losing 4-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Prior to that, they had not reached the finals since 1993, when they won the Cup.
