The Carolina Hurricanes compete in the Metropolitan Division and Eastern Conference. Originally founded in 1971, but the franchise was renamed to the Hurricanes in 1997.
The team is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and is the city's only major professional sports team, creating a passionate fan base.
The Canes won their only Stanley Cup in 2005-06. Over their 28 seasons as the Hurricanes, they have competed in the Northeast, Southeast, Central, and Metropolitan Division.
