White Sox vs. Cubs: Prediction, Props & Best Bets (8/18)

Chicago White Sox vs Chicago Cubs are set for a crosstown rivalry matchup on Monday night at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs took the first game of this series 7-5 thanks to a walk-off home run from Pete-Crow Armstrong on Monday night.

Now 20 games over the .500-mark with a record of 73-53, the Cubs own a six-game lead in the NL wild card race.

On the other side, the White Sox own a 4.5-game lead over the Tigers in the AL Central division.

Chicago has been one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season, and despite dropping Monday night’s contest, continues to put themselves in a prime position to win the division.

First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. ET on TBS.

Chicago White Sox vs. Chicago Cubs betting picks and predictions

Cubs ML (-160)

The Cubs have been great at home all season long. Chicago owns a strong 37-26 record when playing from the comfort of Wrigley Field, and they seem to be in another favorable spot to find the win column in this matchup.

The White Sox have been a far different team on the road than at home this season. When playing at home, things tend to go well. The White Sox are 37-24 at Rate Field, and own a team OPS of .745 as well as a team ERA of 3.38. However, things take a dramatic turn for the worst away from Rate Field.

The White Sox are 28-35 on the road this season, and their team OPS drops to .715 while their team ERA jumps significantly up to 4.88. No matter how you slice it, the road has not been kind to the White Sox in 2026.

Chicago made a splash at the trade deadline by acquiring veteran right-hander Kevin Gausman from the Blue Jays. Gausman’s first two starts with his new team have seen him allow 8 earned runs over 11.2 innings, but both of those outings came on the road.

This will be his first home start at Wrigley Field as a member of the Cubs, and he gets to do so against a White Sox lineup that hasn’t been great on the road. That creates a favorable matchup for Gausman and the Cubs.

The Cubs have won seven of the last 10 meetings in this historic rivalry, and they should be able to keep that trend going in this one. Playing at home, back the Cubs.

Over 8.5 (-125)

Both of these offenses have been great in recent weeks. Specifically, both rank in the top-10 of MLB in terms of OPS over the last two weeks. The Cubs rank third with an OPS of .820, while the White Sox aren’t far behind ranking sixth with a team OPS of .778.

The White Sox will hand the ball to Bryan Hudson in what will be a bullpen game. The Chicago bullpen is posting solid numbers this season, but they might have limited options in this one.

Luis Castillo was able to go just 4.2 innings last night, which forced Chicago to burn through four relievers.

Now set to play their eighth game in as many days, the White Sox bullpen could have limited options. That should put the Cubs in a strong position to do some damage at the plate.

Gausman should be better at home, but he has been shaky enough this season that a dominating outing shouldn’t be expected. He still owns a 4.53 ERA on the season, which is his highest since 2019.

With a total of 8.5, look to the over.
