Tigers vs. Cubs: Prediction, Props & Best Bets

Detroit Tigers vs Chicago Cubs are set for an interleague matchup on Monday night at Wrigley Field.

Detroit started the second half of the season by winning two of three games against the Angels over the weekend. Chicago also won its first series following the MLB All-Star break, taking two of three from the Twins.

First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. ET.

Detroit Tigers vs. Chicago Cubs betting picks and predictions

Tigers ML (-105)

The Tigers have been the best team in the American League since the calendar flipped to June. Since June 1, Detroit owns a solid 24-15 record and started the second half by taking two of three games from the LA Angels over the weekend. They now head to Chicago looking to keep the momentum going.

They should feel good about their chances of doing so, as the Cubs have been the most contrasting team in baseball this season. Chicago has been either way up or way down, making it hard to know what to expect from them day to day. Detroit has been far more consistent over the last two months.

The Cubs will send Jameson Taillon to the mound to make his first start since June 7 against the San Francisco Giants. The veteran right-hander has missed the last month and a half with a hamstring injury, and his numbers were not all that great before landing on the IL. Taillon owns a 5.19 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 67.2 innings, and opponents own a solid .821 OPS against him.

With the way the Tigers are rolling right now, they are the team to back in this matchup.

Over 11.5 (-115)

Detroit is set to hand the ball to Jack Flaherty. Spending the majority of his career in St. Louis, Flaherty is quite familiar with the Cubs and pitching at Wrigley Field. The veteran right-hander has seen great results against Chicago when pitching at home, but the Friendly Confines have not been so friendly to Flaherty.

In 10 starts at Wrigley Field, Flaherty owns a less-than-ideal 5.75 ERA to go along with a 1.623 WHIP through 40.2 innings. Opponents own an OPS of .889 against him at Wrigley, and the Cubs are starting to find a groove once again at the plate. Chicago has scored 16 total runs over its last two games and is averaging a strong 5.3 runs per game over its last 10 contests. Flaherty may have some issues in this one.

Taillon has not been otherworldly this season, and now he is making his first start after an extended injury absence. It is reasonable to say he may have some issues finding a groove – especially when going up against a Detroit lineup that is averaging 4.5 runs per game in July.

With a total of 11.5, look to the over.
