After halting a four-game losing streak with a stunning comeback that started against Shohei Ohtani, the Pittsburgh Pirates go for the series win at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Rookie Tyler Callihan hit the second of two home runs, a three-run shot, and Spencer Horwitz added a two-run blast, both in the eighth inning, as the Pirates overcame a 5-run deficit late in the game to knock off the Dodgers 9-8.
Callihan added a solo shot earlier in the game and the home runs were his first two in the majors.
Jake Mangum had three hits and Brandon Lowe added a two-run double to ignite the comeback in the seventh against Ohtani, who allowed three earned runs for the first time this season as his ERA ballooned to 1.06.
He allowed season highs in hits (6) and runs (4) as well.
Ryan Ward hit his first career grand slam for the Dodgers, who fell to 36-4 this season when leading after seven innings.
Kyle Tucker had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while Ohtani hit a two-run shot in the top of the ninth to get Los Angeles back within one.
Tonight is the rubber game of the series, after the Dodgers easily took the opener on Tuesday, 12-3.
The Dodgers come into the game as road favorites with a -165 moneyline. Pittsburgh’s moneyline sits at +140.
The run line is Dodgers -1.5 (+100). Los Angeles is 1-4 straight up in its last five games against the Pirates, but it has won 11 of 16 on the road overall.
The two-time defending World Series champions send Justin Wrobleski (7-2, 2.62 ERA, 1.00 WHIP) to the mound.
He leads the Dodgers staff with seven wins, although he is just 2-2 in his last five outings after starting his 2026 campaign with five straight wins.
Wrobleski tossed six scoreless innings, scattering six hits and striking out four while walking none in a no-decision last week as the Dodgers dropped a 3-2 game at the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Pittsburgh, which had lost four straight before last night’s comeback, counters with Mitch Keller (5-3, 4.81 ERA, 1.23 WHIP), who took the loss last week after allowing six runs on seven hits in 4 ⅔ innings of work in a 5-3 loss at the Atlanta Braves.
That was the fourth time in his last five outings that Keller has surrendered four or more runs.
Ohtani will be right back in his customary leadoff spot, and he should be rightly annoyed with last night’s result.
Look for him to have a big day at the plate and for the Dodgers to take the series and cover the 1.5-run line as favorites in the process.
In Wrobleski’s last three starts, the games have gone to the Under. But that’s about it for that side of this debate.
The Dodgers have played to the Over in 4 of 5 overall and 6 of 7 at Pittsburgh.
The Pirates have played to the Over in 12 of their last 14, and they have gone to the Over in each of their last eight home games.
Keller has been allowing runs at a high rate recently, so even if Wrobleski silences Pittsburgh’s bats, Los Angeles could simply post the blowout, as they did on Tuesday.
