Kamario Taylor, one of college football’s biggest sensations in 2026, faces LSU, one of the sport’s most controversial and disliked programs, on Saturday in Baton Rouge.
Taylor has been sensational this season, leading Mississippi State to a 4–1 record and a No. 16 ranking in the AP Poll ahead of Week 6. He has passed for 1,450 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions this season, but he will face one of the best defensive lines in the SEC, led by Princewill Umanmielen.
Umanmielen leads LSU with eight sacks through six games and will be eager to add to that total after failing to record a sack for the first time this season in last week’s loss to Kentucky.
LSU has already lost two games this season and will be desperate to avoid a third defeat and keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive. Mississippi State will feel the same way, but the Bulldogs have slightly more breathing room with only one loss this season.
Sam Leavitt will need to take care of the football this weekend, something he has not done particularly well. Leavitt has thrown eight interceptions this year, including one in each of LSU’s first six games. He still has work to do when it comes to protecting the football, but he has improved his completion percentage, completing at least 73% of his passes in each of his past three games.
