Robert Lewandowski has said goodbye to the Camp Nou, and rumors are already circulating about his next destination.
Polish forward Robert Lewandowski has confirmed that he will leave Barcelona at the end of the season. Lewandowski is one of the greatest strikers of his generation, tallying 628 goals in 868 career matches across five different clubs in his professional career.
Lewandowski joined Barcelona in July of 2022, scoring 119 goals in 192 matches while helping the club lift three La Liga titles along the way. With his contract up this season, Lewandowski has the opportunity to sign nearly anywhere he pleases for the final chapters of his career.
The 37-year-old forward leaves the club as a legend, and could find a new home in the United States with the Chicago Fire of MLS.
Lewandowski would be a dream transfer for MLS. The player has been one of the best strikers in the world for many years, but is entering the final years of his playing career.
Many legends of the game have joined MLS at the end of their careers, including David Beckham, Andrea Pirlo, David Villa, and Frank Lampard. More recently, Lionel Messi, Thomas Muller, and Antoine Griezmann have done the same.
The Chicago Fire are the most likely suitor for Lewandowski for two reasons - Chicago has a very large Polish population, and the Fire own exclusive negotiation rights with the player due to the MLS' discovery list rules.
Lewandowski would instantly make an impact on the Fire's title chances with his abilities to find the back of the net. He would join Belgian forward Hugo Cuypers who has been scoring goals for Chicago similar to how Lewandowski did in his prime years at Bayern Munich.
The Vancouver Whitecaps could be a team that can convince the Polish forward to join MLS. Vancouver finished as runners-up to Inter Miami in the MLS Cup Final last season with Lewandowski's former Bayern teammate Thomas Muller Leading the way.
The two former Bayern Munich legends could team form a coup to take down Messi and his Argentine friends in Miami.
AC Milan's name has been been swirling around in rumors related to Lewandowski. With AC Milan, Lewandowski would still be able to play for one of Europe's historically elite clubs and stay closer to home rather than travel across the Atlantic to play in MLS.
AC have tired and failed with many center forwards in recent years, an even at 37-years-old Lewandowski is as close to a sure thing as it gets. Lewandowski would team up with 40-year-old Luka Modric who has been rejuvenated in Milan in hopes to bringing success back to Northern Italy.
