From Karting to Formula 1
Lando Norris enjoyed a successful junior karting career, winning the European Championship at 14 in 2013 and becoming the youngest-ever world champion the following year.
In that same year, Norris began racing single-seaters, finishing third in the Ginetta Junior Championship. He then moved to Formula 4 with Carlin Motorsport in 2015, where he won the championship.
The following year, he claimed titles in the Eurocup Formula Renault, Formula Renault Northern European Cup, and the Toyota Racing Series, in addition to winning four races in British Formula 3.
In 2017, he became the European Formula 3 champion. The next year, he finished second to George Russell in the Formula 2 championship while also being part of the McLaren Young Driver Programme.
Formula 1 Career
Norris has spent his entire F1 career with McLaren. After serving as the team's test and reserve driver in 2018, he secured a full-time seat alongside Carlos Sainz Jr. for the 2019 season.
He finished his debut season in 11th place, behind his more experienced teammate, scoring 49 points, which included two top-six finishes.
The following year, he claimed his first career podium at the season-opening race in Austria. Although two fourth-place finishes were his best results for the remainder of the campaign, he finished ninth in the standings and nearly doubled his points tally to 97.
A highlight of Norris's 2021 season was his maiden pole position at the Russian Grand Prix, though he squandered a likely victory by staying out too long on slick tires during a late-race downpour. His second-place finish at the previous race in Italy, won by then-teammate Daniel Ricciardo, was his best result of the year, and he ended the season sixth with 160 points.
The 2022 season brought only one podium and a seventh-place finish in the standings. However, 2023 saw Norris surge up the grid with seven podiums, including six second-place finishes, after McLaren introduced significant mid-season car upgrades.
In the subsequent years, the Briton became a genuine title contender, securing eight pole positions and finishing as the runner-up in the championship. Crucially, he finally clinched his first Grand Prix victory at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, followed by further wins in the Netherlands, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi.
In 2025, with McLaren boasting the best car on the grid, Lando and his teammate Oscar Piastri dominated the first half of the season. They were chased down by a resurgent Max Verstappen after the summer break, but Norris rediscovered his form, consistently outperforming the Australian to pull ahead in the standings.
The title fight went down to the final race in Abu Dhabi. Norris entered the weekend with a 12-point lead, needing only a podium finish to be crowned champion. Despite starting second and being overtaken by his teammate on the first lap, Norris held on to third place to secure his first Formula 1 World Championship.
