Joe Milton is getting his first start for the Philadelphia Eagles this week, and looking to finally make an impression that sticks.
Joe Milton was selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and is already on his third team in as many years. Milton played his college ball at Michigan before transferring to Tennessee when he was finally given the opportunity to showcase his talents in his sixth year of eligibility.
The 26-year-old is an incredible athlete with one of the most powerful arms in the NFL, but he has not received many opportunities to show the world what he can do.
Milton made one start for the Patriots in 2024, winning a meaningless Week 18 game against the Buffalo Bills. He was excellent in that game, throwing for 241 yards on 22-of-29 passing and a touchdown, while also rushing for 16 yards and another score to hand the Bills just their fourth loss of the season.
He was then traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a fifth round pick, where he appeared in four games but could not get an extended run in the team with Dak Prescott ahead of him on the depth chart.
This season, the Philadelphia Eagles signed Milton off the Cowboys' practice squad, and are starting him this week against the New York Giants. The Eagles are opting to start Milton ahead of backup quarterback Tanner McKee, who has not been particularly impressive since Jalen Hurts was forced to miss an extended period while dealing with blood clots.
At 2–6, the Eagles are finally giving Milton the opportunity he believes he deserves. Time will tell whether this quarterback change can finally revive the Eagles’ season.
