The Chicago Bears host the New York Jets on Sunday at Solider Field.
Veteran quarterback Geno Smith will lead the Jets to Chicago to face Tyson Bagent, who will make his fifth career NFL start and his first since 2023.
Bagent went undrafted out of Shepherd University but has impressed the Chicago coaching staff, earning a two-year, $10 million extension this off-season to remain the backup to franchise quarterback Caleb Williams.
Bagent’s skills will be put to the test this weekend against a New York Jets defence that has allowed the third-fewest passing yards per game to opposing quarterbacks (171.0). He will likely need to consistently put points on the board, given the Bears’ defense has been willing to allow opposing teams to move the ball down the field.
Smith has been solid in his return to New York, passing for 783 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions through the first three games. He could face greater pressure this weekend, with running back Breece Hall ruled out due to a groin strain.
In Hall’s absence, Braelon Allen will serve as the Jets’ primary ball carrier, with Isaiah Davis providing support.
