The Philadelphia Phillies left-handed pitcher Jesús Luzardo has been placed on the 15-day injured list.
Luzardo has not pitched since his first complete-game shutout on September 7. He threw 109 pitches (78 strikes) over 9 innings, leading the Phillies to a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Luzardo has been a staple in the Phillies' rotation, posting an 8-1 record with a 1.65 ERA since June 23, with the team going 12-2 in his starts.
An MRI revealed inflammation in his left shoulder. Now, the Phillies will be without one of their most dominant starting pitchers as they look to secure a playoff spot; they currently hold the second National League Wild Card position.
The Philadelphia Phillies only have 12 games left in the regular season, Jesus Luzardo is ineligible to return for the remainder of it. However, Don Mattingly has not ruled out Luzardo for a potential post season start, with the Wild-Card Series set to begin on Tuesday, September 29.
