Iva Jovic has risen to a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 14, achieved just last month, and has an opportunity to go on a miracle run at the US Open in just her third attempt. Jovic caught the attention of tennis fans at this year's Australian Open and Wimbledon Championships, where she reached the quarterfinals and round of 16, respectively.
The California native will face another up-and-coming star, Alexandra Eala, in the third round. Eala won the Mubadala DC Open earlier this year, announcing herself as a legitimate threat in WTA events.
