Lucas Herbert and Sam Burns delivered two of the best rounds ever seen in major championship golf on Friday at Royal Birkdale.
Each posted an eight-under 62 to equal the lowest single-round score in men's major history, putting themselves in contention heading into the weekend.
Lucas Herbert came within one stroke of setting the record before finishing with a bogey on the 18th. While a spectacular bunker hole-out on the 18th gave Sam Burns one final birdie, securing a record-tying 62.
The last time two players carded rounds of 62 at the same major championship came at the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club, where Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele accomplished the feat during the opening round of the tournament.
Herbert and Burns sit inside top five on the leaderboard, and while they've made history, there's still plenty of golf left to play at what has been an exciting Open Championship.
